One of the questions I hear most often from travelers planning their first Alaska cruise is:
"Do I really need Glacier Bay?"
My answer is usually simple: If you can get Glacier Bay, I recommend it.
That doesn't mean an Alaska cruise without Glacier Bay won't be incredible. Alaska has no shortage of spectacular scenery. But Glacier Bay offers something truly special that many experienced Alaska cruisers consider the highlight of their entire trip.
What Makes Glacier Bay Different?
Glacier Bay National Park is a protected wilderness area and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Only a limited number of cruise ships are permitted to enter each day, which helps preserve its pristine beauty and wildlife.
Unlike many other glacier viewing days, Glacier Bay isn't just about sailing up to one glacier, taking photos, and leaving.
You'll spend much of the day cruising through a landscape filled with towering mountains, floating icebergs, and multiple tidewater glaciers. National Park Rangers board the ship to provide narration, helping guests understand the geology, wildlife, and history of the region.
Keep your binoculars handy because sightings often include:
• Humpback whales
• Sea otters
• Harbor seals
• Bald eagles
• Mountain goats
• Brown bears along the shoreline
How Does It Compare to Other Glacier Experiences?
Alaska offers several incredible glacier destinations.
Hubbard Glacier is massive and awe-inspiring, but ships can't always get close due to ice conditions.
Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier feature dramatic fjords, waterfalls, and striking blue ice.
Tracy Arm Fjord is exceptionally scenic but can occasionally be inaccessible because of seasonal ice.
All are wonderful experiences, but Glacier Bay often provides the most immersive and educational glacier day available on an Alaska cruise.
Which Cruise Lines Visit Glacier Bay?
Not every cruise line has access to Glacier Bay permits.
Some of the best options include:
• Holland America Line
• Princess Cruises
• Select sailings on Norwegian Cruise Line
• Certain luxury cruise operators
If Glacier Bay is important to you, I always suggest choosing your itinerary first and your ship second.
My Recommendation
When clients ask me for one piece of Alaska advice, it's this:
Prioritize the itinerary over the ship.
The biggest regret I hear from Alaska travelers isn't that they picked the wrong cabin. It's that they later learned another itinerary visited Glacier Bay and wished they had known sooner.
Planning an Alaska cruise for 2027 or 2028?
I'd be happy to compare itineraries, pricing, and cruise lines at no cost and help you find the Alaska sailing that's the best fit for your travel style and budget.

Alaska is one of the most breathtaking destinations you can visit, but it's also one of the easiest cruises to get wrong.
After helping travelers plan Alaska vacations and taking Alaska cruises myself, I noticed many first-time visitors ask the same questions:
To help answer those questions, I created my Alaska Cruise Planning Guide: 10 Mistakes First-Time Alaska Cruisers Make (And How to Avoid Them).
Inside the guide you'll discover:
Seattle vs. Vancouver: Which Departure Port is Better?
Many travelers choose Seattle simply because flights are cheaper, but they don't realize Vancouver itineraries often provide calmer waters and more scenic cruising through the true Inside Passage.
Why Glacier Bay Matters
Not all glacier experiences are equal. Glacier Bay remains the gold standard for many Alaska cruisers, but there are several other incredible glacier destinations worth considering depending on your itinerary.
Choosing the Right Cruise Line
Princess, Holland America, Celebrity, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean all offer Alaska cruises, but each delivers a very different experience. The best choice depends on your travel style, budget, and who you're traveling with.
Excursions Worth Splurging On
Some experiences simply can't be replicated anywhere else, including:
How Much Should You Budget?
One of the biggest surprises for first-time Alaska visitors is understanding the total investment involved, including flights, hotels, excursions, gratuities, and cruise fare.
Packing Tips Most Travelers Forget
Alaska isn't the Caribbean. Layering, waterproof outerwear, comfortable footwear, and binoculars can make a huge difference in your experience.

My goal is simple: help travelers avoid common mistakes and experience Alaska the way it deserves to be experienced.

🎄 Why the Holidays Are the BEST Time to Book a Cruise (and How to Snag the Best Deals)
The holiday season isn’t just about gifts, lights, and festive food — it’s also one of the smartest times of year to book a cruise. Whether you’re planning a getaway for next year or giving the gift of travel, cruise lines roll out some of their strongest promotions between Thanksgiving and New Year’s.
As a travel advisor, this is when I help clients lock in incredible value for 2025 and 2026 sailings — often with perks they wouldn’t get any other time of year.
Here’s why the holidays are prime booking season — and how to take advantage of it.
🎁 Holiday Cruise Deals = More Than Just a Lower Price
During the holidays, cruise lines compete aggressively for bookings. Instead of just discounting fares, many stack value-adds that can save you hundreds (sometimes thousands).
Typical holiday promotions include:
Reduced or refundable deposits
Onboard credit to spend on drinks, spa, or excursions
Free or discounted drink packages
Specialty dining credits
Cabin upgrades
Kids Sail Free offers (select sailings)
Cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, and Norwegian Cruise Line traditionally launch multiple overlapping holiday promos — and knowing which one is actually the best is where having a travel advisor matters.
🎅 Why Booking During the Holidays Is a Smart Move
1. Best availability of the year
Popular itineraries (Caribbean, Alaska, Europe) still have good cabin selection — especially balconies and family-friendly staterooms.
2. Lock in pricing before increases
Cruise prices almost always rise as ships fill. Booking now protects you from future hikes, and I can reprice your cruise if a better promo appears.
3. Perfect time to plan ahead
Holiday bookings are ideal for:
Spring break
Summer vacations
🎄 Cruising During the Holidays? It’s Magical
If you’ve never cruised over Christmas or New Year’s, it’s truly special.
Expect:
Massive Christmas trees in the atrium
Holiday shows and themed parties
Special Christmas & New Year’s menus
Fireworks at sea on New Year’s Eve
Warm-weather escapes from winter cold
Holiday cruises book up fast — especially Caribbean sailings — and many are already selling out.
🎁 Cruises Make Incredible Holiday Gifts
Instead of more “stuff,” a cruise is a shared experience that lasts far longer than the holidays.
Cruises are perfect gifts for:
Parents or grandparents
Couples and newlyweds
Milestone birthdays
Honeymoons or anniversaries
Family reunions
I can even help you present it as a gift with a custom booking confirmation or surprise reveal.

Believe it or not, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s travel is already filling up fast—and prices are only going up from here.
Whether you’re dreaming of a sunny escape, a Christmas cruise, or a snowy cabin getaway, now is the time to lock it in.
Here’s why:
💸 1. Prices Are Climbing by the Week
Flights and resorts are already showing limited availability for the holidays—especially around peak departure dates like December 20–27 and January 1–5.
Pro tip: Booking now locks in lower prices and better flight options.
🚢 2. Holiday Cruises Are Almost Full
Cruises over the holidays are extremely popular. If you’ve ever dreamed of spending Christmas in the Caribbean or ringing in the New Year at sea—don’t wait!
I still have availability on some amazing itineraries with Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival, and Holland America.
🏝️ 3. All-Inclusive Resorts Are Booking Up
From Mexico to the Dominican Republic, holiday weeks are high-demand periods for beach resorts. If you want:
Oceanfront rooms
Adults-only properties
Family-friendly suites
...you’ll want to act fast.
🎁 4. Give the Gift of Travel
Want to skip the shopping stress this year? Surprise your partner, parents, or kids with a vacation under the tree. I can even help you design a custom gift certificate or trip reveal!
✈️ 5. Payment Plans Make It Easy
Book now, pay later. Most cruises and resort packages can be reserved with a small deposit—and final payment isn’t due until closer to your travel date.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by cruise choices—you're not alone. With so many ships, ports, perks, and promotions, it’s easy to make a few missteps when booking your vacation at sea. But don’t worry—I’ve got you covered.
Here are the top 5 cruise booking mistakes I see travelers make—and how to avoid them:
1. Waiting Too Long to Book
📅 Pro tip: The best cabins (especially balconies and suites) get scooped up quickly, and prices can go up the closer you get to sail date.
✅ What to do instead: Book early—especially for peak season cruises or bucket-list destinations like Alaska or Antarctica. Plus, early bookings often qualify for extra perks!
2. Ignoring Departure Ports
🛫 Flying into a port city the morning of your cruise? Risky.
✅ What to do instead: Arrive the day before. Trust me, flight delays happen, and cruise ships don’t wait. I help my clients build in a cushion with pre-cruise hotel stays and transfers.
3. Not Factoring in Gratuities or Extras
💳 That great deal might not include drinks, Wi-Fi, excursions, or gratuities. Surprise charges? No thanks.
✅ What to do instead: I help you understand exactly what’s included—and what’s not—so there are no surprise charges once you're onboard.
4. Picking the Wrong Ship or Itinerary
🚢 Not all cruise ships are created equal! Booking the wrong one can mean missing out on the vibe you’re looking for.
✅ What to do instead: Let’s chat! Whether you're traveling with kids, going solo, or celebrating something special—I’ll match you with the perfect ship.
5. Booking Without a Travel Advisor
🙈 You can do it alone—but you might miss out on perks, upgrades, or exclusive deals.
✅ What to do instead: Work with me! I’ll handle the details, monitor for price drops, and make sure you’re getting the most value for your vacation.
Let’s Make Your Next Cruise the Best One Yet
Whether it’s your first sailing or your 15th, I’m here to help you cruise smarter—not harder.
